Oral Health Care Awareness Training
Course Purpose:
This short awareness course has been developed and aimed at care workers working in care homes supporting service users with the oral health care needs.
Learning Outcomes:

Be able to understand the importance of oral heath care.

Be aware of your role and responsibility as a care worker and your organisations policy.

Be aware of NICE and their guideline for Oral Care.

Be able to understand the importance of residents’ oral health and the potential effect on their general health, wellbeing and dignity.

Understand the potential impact of untreated dental pain or mouth infection for people who cannot articulate their pain, distress or ask for help.

Know how and when to reassess residents’ oral health and care planning

Know how to deliver daily mouth care

Know how and when to report any oral health concerns for residents, and how to respond to a resident’s changing needs and circumstances.

Understand the importance of denture marking and how to arrange this for residents, with their permission.
Course Duration: 2 hours Awareness Course
Who should attend: Care Staff, Senior Staff and Managers
How many staff can attend: Maximum of 12 staff on each course.
